The impossible gene — Kitty Clock possession

Last month, the Kitty Clock released some Gen 0s with an unintended gene
Roughly every fifteen minutes, the CryptoKitties COO account releases a gen 0 Kitty and puts it up for auction. On April 24th, it accidentally released 36 Gen 0s with a gene that shouldn’t have been included — in fact, it shouldn’t even have been possible. The gene was intended to be unlocked via breeding, as part of our new staged trait releases. Unfortunately, new features come with new bugs, and we didn’t catch this one!

The gene itself is hidden, but the Gen 0s that possess it can unlock the associated Cattribute in their offspring more easily than intended.

How did it happen?
The team member in charge of our gene releases ended up in the hospital (but don’t worry, they’re doing fine now!). Another team member stepped up to cover for them, and while the team followed due process, they were also working late into the night.

The result was a single out-of-place character, the wrong gene being released, and no one catching it because most of the team was asleep.

If you were lucky enough to catch one of those Gen 0s, it’s yours. Like our homepage says, each cat is “100% owned by you; it cannot be replicated, taken away, or destroyed.”
