Blockchain Revolution

Kota: First of all, it is often said that Blockchain clarified each number of cards issued and who own them. The digital world of today, anything can be easily copied such as music, game walkthrough information and so on. In my opinion, emergence of Blockchain gave originality to digital data. It sometimes happens that the only card of its kind in the world is high-priced and its copies are sold in the internet.
Eiji: Do you know the great card has appeared in GodsUnchained?
I suppose it 10/10 card with one cost?

Kota:10/10 with one cost and it can change opponent’s deck. It was $70,000- at that time. I’m not sure it can be used in the tournaments though.

Can the card games be interesting even their number of cards issued limited?

Siro: We need to consider Trading card games and Digital card games separately. Actually, Digital card games have no trading element. People research the strong cards and collect them to compose their decks for ranked match. It is not the game something like you create your own decks.

Kota: People start to collect the strong cards after checking the high win rate decks.

Shiro: For me, the most exciting part for card games is playing with friends with my best deck without gathering information. So when the new DCGs come out, I play them without checking hints-and-tips websites and SNS such as Twitter.
Thinking by myself is very fun and I try to extend the period.
The way to enjoy card games is shifting to rank match because of the intention of the publishers. But I think Blockchain games have the possibility to be become different from them.

Kota: I have two brothers and when I was kid and playing with them, we knew each other’s deck perfectly. As knowing the opponent’s deck, finding the way to win was also enjoyable. Sometimes I was like “What? You’ve got that card!?”

Local TCG situation and Blockchain game

Siro: limit of number of card issued, it affects more local places than city side.
I’m from Hakodate and when I played Magic the Gathering in 20 years ago, there were several cards which I had no way to get them because of the limit. There was no online shopping at that time so I had to find by word of mouth.
Something like “Hey, I heard someone has the good card in that shop!” so it is just like role-playing game.

Even I found someone who has the cards which I wanted and asked him
“I heard you have that card, could you trade it with me?” and he said
“I don’t trade my cards with strangers”. So it is exactly like role-playing game.
But it’s almost the same as business trade something like,
“I would like to make a deal.” “I would like to know you first.”
It means if you met someone in the tournaments several times, he would trade his cards with you. I love the style of trading; it is the fun part of the limitation of issued cards.

Kota: It is like enjoying the negotiation of price in Mercari. Buying and selling can be entertainment.

Shiro: You need to research the information for the strong cards to win the match in analog card games the same as Digital card games after all. But playing the games is very fun even you don’t research, collect or win the first prize.
Blockchain doesn’t have to follow the way of Trading card games or Digital card games. It can create its own future.

Kota: As you said, hopping around the card stores or negotiating with people might happen in Blockchain games.
Some games allow you to trade the assets in external markets or renting the cards through Twitter. They are personal communications so they can be like “I will lend this because of you” “I wouldn’t sell this to other people.” I love the concept.

Shiro: they usually happen in analog games. If somebody who you rend the card wins the match, you get the better stuff in return, like he may treat you to a better meal.
So Blockchain gives added value to the acts of lending and borrowing.

Kota: Ideally Ethereum can be used for lending and borrowing or deciding the rate of prize money. They can be more reliable by Blockchain.

Eiji: So you can’t borrow without returning.

The enjoyment of unfair games

Kota: On the other hand, there might be the argument that Blockchain is unfair because it is played with the owned assets.
MMO and Browser games are unfair too. But everyone considers that esports must be fair game.

Shiro: the tournaments could be fun even they are unfair.
So just like football in Europe or motor sports, TOYOTA and mercedes-benz match with their technologies. So unfair doesn’t mean boring. The point is, what the games want to provide us. On the condition of small competitions in Blockchain, it could be interesting.

The fairness from the view of players

Kota: How about the view of players?

Koroneko: I’ve played the several games and the popular ones have the fairness.
For some esports, everyone starts with level 1 and 500 yen, without any items.
And several card games are you make the decks from the all cards and match, it is really fair and it makes the games interesting.
As for analog Trading card games, you can buy any cards you want, so maybe you can call it “fair”. You can’t use the strong cards or the limited cards for some Trading Card games.
If Blockchain follows the current culture of esports, the system which you select the all cards to create the decks should be adapted for being treated as esports.
It is that only if Blockchain follows the esports culture.

Eiji: It is like different martial arts, I think it is interesting. Like Judo and Boxing, you can divide the classes for each match. It depends on the definition.

Koroneko: You can choose anything, the point it where you aim to.

Kota: For example, you can open the competition with the decks composed with only bronze cards.

Eiji: That’s right. Just like the same weight, the same engine.

Continued to the second part…

In the second part, Eiji who spread Force of Will to the world will talk about his own experience.
